What are the Surface Finish Requirements for Astm A789 Steel Pipes?
The ASTM A789 specification covers ferritic/austenitic seamless and welded stainless steel tubing for general usage as corrosion-resisting and low or high-temperature service. With respect to the surface finishes requirements of ASTM A789 steel pipes, the specification generally provides the information for attaining various surface finishes to meet the applicational requirements.
1. Annealed and Pickled Finish: It is this that is used for anodizing when ASTM A789 is the finish requirement. After the production of steel tubulars, they go through an annealing cycle to relieve stress and improve machinability. Then the oxides and surface impure to be removed by pickleding. This finish gives rise to a clean, uniform surface which is rightly good for corrosion resistant application and also required by some smooth looking applications.
2. Bright Annealed Finish: The ASTM A789 may request a bright annealed finish for steel piping, especially where there is an enhanced aesthetics and cleanliness requirement in place. Bright annealing is carried out by heating up the steel tubes in a particular atmosphere so as to clean the surfaces of the oxides and contaminants, thus getting a bright reflective finish with an improved corrosion resistance.
3. Polished Finish: Polished finishes might need to be done on the ASTM A789 steel pipes in some instances so that it reaches some specific surface smoothness and appearance standards. Polishing requires mechanical, or chemical treatment of the pipe's surface in order to remove defects. It results in a mirror finish surface of the pipes.
